Written for solo alto saxophone and piano, this suite combines the three movements using a contemporary folk theme. The three movements cover a range of colour tones and mood. The quirky 1st movement is followed by the beautifully tender 2nd movement. The suite is rounded off with the lively syncopated dance of the 3rd movement.
i. Cooly Cuillins
This is a jaunty little tune and is inspired by a long hike through the imposing Cuillin Mountains on the Isle of Skye. The piece is mostly in 2/4, but with a couple of 5/8s thrown in for good measure – think ‘dad dancing’ at a Ceilidh . . . or stumbling over rocks in the rain!

Written in a Scottish folk style, this is a tender piece for alto saxophone and piano. Its beautiful melody gives the performer the chance to show their expressive playing. Written in C major, it has a range of low D to C (with octave) so would suit players of approx. grade 3 standard.
